Hi all,
I have installed redhat linux 9 recently. I can ssh to other machines/servers succesfullly. But I cannot ssh to my machine from other machines.

my /etc/hosts is:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
128.6.76.36     doddi.engr.rutgers.edu  sai

When I say:

1) ssh localhost, I can login successfully.

2) When I say:

ssh -l sai 128.6.76.36
[sai@doddi sai]$ ssh -l sai 128.6.76.36
sai@128.6.76.36's password:

Permission denied, please try again.
sai@128.6.76.36's password:
Permission denied (publickey,password).
[sai@doddi sai]$

I cannot login as it doesnot accept the password.

3) Here is the output when I use the -v option

Please help.

Please let me know how I should go about debugging. How do I check where the problem is?
What all files should I check? Are there any commands that can be used to find out what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

-Sai.

This says it all. Doesn't allow remote hosts. Try removing "localhost" in your ssh configuration file,

All I have in my ssh configuration file is the following two lines.
------------------------------------
Host *
        ForwardX11 yes
------------------------------------
The rest of the file has lines which are commented. And there is no "localhost" that I can remove from this file as per your suggestion.

Thanks,
Sai.

Hi ! Again me !

I downloaded ssh 1.2.27 and installed it
./configure
make
make install

ivmod_1.c:193: error: parse error before "if"
divmod_1.c:204: error: parse error before ':' token
make[2]: *** [divmod_1.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/ssh-1.2.27/gmp-2.0.2-ssh-2/mpn'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ssh-1.2.27/gmp-2.0.2-ssh-2'
make: *** [gmp-2.0.2-ssh-2/libgmp.a] Error 2

that says. But i read that the next thing is that sshd_config should be in /etc/sshd_config
and it isn t.
Also i need a patch  patch -p1 -l < patch-ssh-1.2.27-rsaref.buffer.overflow
and i can t find it anywhere .

What about sshd_hostkey

I cannot login as it doesnot accept the password.

d_sai_kumar you do have the same username on the box you are trying to connect from ? For example if I want to connect to box A with the username TEST but I am running as the user TESTB on BOX B then I would use the following command.
ssh TEST@IPHERE
thest TEST is the username I want to login with on the remote system.

Another thing to check if you are trying to login as root on the remote box is that this might be disabled on the ssh server.
