Three questions

Hello all.

I have been bouncing back and forth between Windows and Linux now for sometime. I thought things would be better with XP but I have been proven wrong.

I have Mandrake 9.2. I have most things set up, and it was easier then I though possible. But their are a few things I need help with.

1 - How do I install a java rpm.bin(the latest one.) I am using firfox also.

2 - I need a dvd player. One that can read the menus and is not in source. I have been trying to use totem and it keeps crashing.

3 - Do I need to have MSwindows installed in order to use wine? If not how do I get the damn thing to work. It seems to be installed correctly, but maybe I am missing something.

Thanks in advanced.

Are you referring to the j2sdk-1_5_0-beta-linux-i586-rpm.bin file? A .bin file is a script installer. Make sure it has executable permissions:
CODE

#ls -l j2sdk-1_5_0-beta-linux-i586-rpm.bin

If it shows x (executable) in these positions ---x--x--x then you can run the script as root:
CODE

#./j2sdk-1_5_0-beta-linux-i586-rpm.bin

Otherwise, change the permissions using:
CODE

#chmod +x j2sdk-1_5_0-beta-linux-i586-rpm.bin

and run it,

ok, first I have found the answer to my wine question.

Second this is where I have the java file I downloaded

file:/home/webwolf/j2re-1_4_2_04-linux-i586-rpm.bin

I tried those commands and nothing happened that I could see. I have Firefox and installed the plug-in for that but java is not working in that browser. I don't know if I did something wrong while installing j2re-1_4_2_04-linux-i586-rpm.bin if it is installed at all or if I need to do something more with firefox.

Just to let everyone know a couple of things. I have solved the wine question. Apparently mswindows should be installed becuase most programs that run under wine will need a mswindows file structure.

Also I FINALLY got ogle to work and it works great with dvds. Except for the screen size. Full screen mode is a bit smaller then I would like but I will play around with that later.

Third I am still haviong problems with java. I am going to start a seperate post and explain what I have done in detail.

Thanks for the help.
