Hello,

With 10.2, each time I try a "urpmi.update -a & urpmi --auto-select --auto",
urpmi get freeze during the install. I have to kill the process and start
again. And once again, it is freezing after let say 10 packages installed.

I'm running 7 desktop machines at work and 2 at home with exactly the same
problem. The common thing is I use vanilla kernel 2.6.12 with CK/inotify
patchs and repositories (main, contrib, etc...) are all mirrored on local
FTP server (but I stricty respect repositories structures). By the way, it
was working fine with 10.1.

Does anyone have this problem and found a solution ?

Regards. Yoran

So this is not 10.2 as you stated. It is customized system. Does the problem
happen too if you use kernel from 10.2?

The issue may be related to locking, there were several outbreaks in
post-10.2; IIRC glibc locking code relies on some features of mdk kernel;
the issue also may be hardware specific (i.e. on some CPU types and not
others).

Check cooker archives for more detail description of this problem.

try SMART [1] instead uf urpmi, which is better anyway...
you will find the latest release in cooker/2006 repository

Already head about this, I'll give it a try now. Thanks.

Absolutly the same, unfortunaly. Sorry, I should have test this before but

no more success.

what system do you have? According to this thread
[http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=112180674800002&r=1&w=2] it is a problem
running on older i586; another threads indicate (possibly different
problem) using exactly -ck patches as in your original post.

BTW using smart won't change anything as the bug is likely to be in
combination of kernel/hardware/RPM; both urpmi and smart finally use RPM as
real backend.

Interesting.  I've had urpmi freeze with 10.2 and a vanilla kernel
2.6.13rc6 using urpmi [package].
