sys-libs/com_err-1.37 breaks things

Hi folks,

I ran today's emerge --update --deep --newuse -pv world , and then
installed some packages, including sys-libs/com_err-1.37 .

It seems that this breaks the libcom3 library, at least the ssh daemon
stops letting people in and fetchmail doesn't start anymore:

# fetchmail: error while loading shared libraries: libcom_err.so.3:
# cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

My (old) locate database says there should be a such file in /usr/lib/ ,
but there isn't.
An emerge --oneshot fetchmail didn't do the trick.

I now symlinked libcom_err.so.2.0 to libcom_err.so.3 and everything
seems to run again; although there I have a feeling that this is not the
best way to fix it.

Has anyone else run into this problem and/or good ideas what is going on?

Thanks,
with best regards

   -hannes

Run revdep-rebuild.

I did that, but it said it would only rebuild java-jdks and azureus,
which I expect not to be a fetchmail dependency ;-)

Before or after you manually symlinked the missing library? Also,
it would be kind of you to mention any other things you've tried
so people can avoid having to ask you back and forth to get to the
solution.

Either way, rebuilding fetchmail should really do the trick since
that's the software that complains about a missing library. If not,
I don't quite see how it's possible to build it at all.

Hi all,

Run revdep-rebuild.

.... and don't forget to clean up any cached files the last
revdep-rebuild generated *before* you do that.
What a stupid thing to miss. Sorry to have bothered you.
