I just installed SuSE 9.1 (x86_64), everything went fine except that it cant seem to recognize my floppy drive. I want to put LiLO on a floppy to boot from, but it cant see the floppy drive, so i cant put it on. It shows there being a floppy device in 'my computer' but when i open it up it says

Could not enter folder /media/floppy

i really dont know much about linux, can someone help? I can give any more info that would help but i really dont know what sort of info to give. thanks

Did you try to mount it from the command line and see if you get any additional errors. And also please post your /etc/fstab file.

/etc/fstab gives this output:

/dev/hde2            /                    reiserfs   acl,user_xattr        1 1
/dev/hde1            /windows/C           ntfs       ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/hdf5            /windows/D           ntfs       ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/hde3            swap                 swap       pri=42                0 0
devpts               /dev/pts             devpts     mode=0620,gid=5       0 0
proc                 /proc                proc       defaults              0 0
usbfs                /proc/bus/usb        usbfs      noauto                0 0
sysfs                /sys                 sysfs      noauto                0 0
/dev/cdrecorder      /media/cdrecorder    subfs      fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/dvd             /media/dvd           subfs      fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0             /media/floppy        subfs      fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0

trying to mount via the command line says:

mount: can't find mnt/floppy in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

/dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0

Your floppy is in your /etc/fstab. And it looks like its mount point is /media/floppy (I never saw something like that before). Try mounting your floppy as
mount /media/floppy
If that dont work, then change the /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss, procuid, nodev, nosuid, sync 0 0 l  line. Change the mount point from /media/floppy to /mnt/floppy.
Then do
mkdir /mnt/floppy

Then try mounting it
mount /mnt/floppy

Hope it helps wink.gif
